Say hi Welcome

A colorful cabin near 10,000 ft.

Hill & Summit LLC is a small hosting company run by two people who would rather be on a trail. Our first place is a color-soaked mountain cabin in Fairplay, Colorado: a private 5-acre basecamp with Mt. Democrat views, built so the whole family can spread out by day and gather around the fire, the game table and the hot tub at night.

The cabin

Mountain cabin, but make it colorful.

Most cabins go brown, beige and antler. Ours goes mustard, coral, teal and cherry red, layered over knotty pine with velvet, lacquer and shag. Every room should make you smile when you walk in, and every room has something to do.

Your hosts

Two Alps

One of us is from Japan, the other from Austria. He didn't believe Japan has Alps, so we went to Hakuba to show him. We love mountains in both countries, and this cabin is our attempt to bring the best of them to Colorado.

Fairplay

Up high, out west, wide open.

~10,000feet above sea level, just above the town of Fairplay (9,953 ft) in South Park, a big high mountain basin ringed by peaks. About 2 hours from Denver, just over the pass from Breckenridge.
Summer

Trails, trout, bikes

Kite Lake picnic hikes, mountain biking, camping and fishing. Fairplay calls itself the trout fishing capital. July is usually the busiest month.

Winter

Ski days and snow days

Ski Breckenridge, then come back to a quieter, roomier place with a hot tub. Sledding and snowshoeing are close by.

In town

Small-town Colorado

South Park City museum, Burro Days, the Park County Fair, the Silverheels 100 ultramarathon and the Elevation Music Festival.

Day one

Go slow, drink water

The air is thin here and most people feel it a little. Drink more water than you think you need, and save the big hike for day two.
